Thailand (GISTDA) delegations continue their inventiveroles on advancing Asia-Pacific space technologyapplications in the 29th Session of Intergovernmental Consultative Committee on the Regional Space Applications Programme for Sustainable Development(29th ICC on RESAP)
United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and Korea AeroSpaceAdministration (KASA), co-organized the 29th Session of Intergovernmental Consultative Committee on the Regional Space Applications Programme for Sustainable Development (29th ICC on RESAP), from 2 to 4 September 2025, in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The Session has been annually convening among 53 member States of ESCAP, with the key objectives to discuss strategies and regional shared initiatives to further accelerate the implementation of the Asia-Pacific Plan of Action on Space Applications for Sustainable Development 2018-2030 (Plan of Action).
As one of the widely accepted Committee, Thai delegations, led by Dr. Tanita Suepa, Director, Strategic Alliance Office, GISTDA, provided the Committee, latest achievements of Thailand on significant implementation of regional space cooperation
and emphasize the indispensable role of digital innovation on sustainable economic and social development of the region, she also proposed the Committee to jointly collaborate more on GISTDA’s AI-powered products and tools, such as, the digital agriculture platform “Dragonfly”, the decision support system on better urban management “Digital Twin”, and thedigital solution to facilitate new carbon sequestration assessment method “Carbon Atlas”. Her visions and contributions on how to leverage digital innovation like AI, IOT, and Machine Learning to enlarge effectiveness of space technology for disaster management, also guided and shaped the direction of the Committee’s future activities.
At the end of the Session, the Committee agreed that the thematic series of workshop and capacity development program on applications of AI and space technology to manage and monitor flood, forest fire, drought, air pollution, and crop,should be conducted and prioritized among member States of ESCAP/RESAP.
Additionally, this 29th ICC on RESAP also welcomed and excited with the side event “Harnessing digital innovations for space: Experiences and Insights”, which showcased successful stories of advanced digital innovation and space technology applications from member States (including, Thailand) and private sectors of Republic of Korea.
Thailand (GISTDA) has been actively contributing in ESCAP’s ICC on RESAP from its inception in 1994. Since, this United Nations institution is not only the arena for member States to gain more political position, status or role in the region, but it is also the essential platform that canleverage competitiveness and provide real knowledge, good practices and experiences, technical resources and assistances, as well as, funds through the mutual space cooperation among member States.
