On the 18th of July, from 9:00 AM at the Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building of Chulalongkorn University, the Embassy of Italy in Bangkok organizes a Conference with the title “Italian Space Activities: the success of COSMO Sky-Med. A long history looking into the future”.
The event, in the framework of the Italian Festival 2012, will be opened by the Ambassador of Italy to Thailand, H.E. Michelangelo Pipan, and it will see the important contributions by prominent Thai and Italian specialists in the field, with a view to strengthen a fruitful and lasting cooperation between Thailand and Italy. Among the speakers, Dr. Gabriella Arrigo, Chief of International Cooperation of the Italian Space Agency (ASI), Dr. Anond Snidvongs, Executive Director of GISTDA, Col. Stefano Rivola, Head of the Space Bureau at the Italian Ministry of Defense, and Lt. Gen. Yutthachai Bhandngam, Director General of Defense Information and Space Technology at the Thai Ministry of Defense.
Italy has a long tradition in space activities and it is one of the most important members of ESA, the European Space Agency, as well as a major contributor to the ISS, the International Space Station. By focusing on the success story of the Italian government financed COSMO Sky-Med satellite and the future of the Italian industry in the field, who is sponsoring the event with the world leading firms e-Geos, Telespazio and Thales Alenia Space, the conference will offer the opportunity to discuss state-of-the-art technology in space observation, a fundamental tool in many sectors like natural disasters prevention and management. The perspectives of earth observation and space activities by Thai Authorities will provide the discussion with a concrete-oriented debate. |
