The contribution of Space Technology in Thailand’s massive flood crisis in late 2011 was acknowledged by national leaders, Thai society and elsewhere in the world. The geo-informatics and space technology is not only providing static images but it is a dynamic tool for monitoring, forecasting and planning. Space technology can be broadly applied to serve national policies in terms of disaster warning and integrated water management. In the aftermath of that flood, the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency – GISTDA, as the national space agency, in collaboration with partners has developed flood forecasting system and water monitoring system by using space technology and models which will be practically applied by mid-year 2012. These system and model will be exhibited in the event so called “Space Technology for Disaster Warning and Water Management”.

The Thai Government has recently earmarked more than US$ 11 billion for long term measures for flood prevention in Chao-Phraya River basin including infrastructure, warning and monitoring systems. Space Technology so far has been recognized as one of effective tools to support these measures - upstream, midstream, and downstream measures. With the objective to raise awareness of space technology’s efficiency among high level entities of Thailand, the mini-expo has been initiated.

GISTDA, as the host, encourages space and geo-Informatics agencies to present their state of the art capabilities and efficiency in tackling disaster and supporting water management. The audience of the event are expected to be the Cabinet, national decision makers, policy makers, executives, and investors.

Objectives:
  1. To raise awareness among national decision makers of the efficiency in space technology applications in terms of disaster warning and water management
  2. To improve confidence among investors of disaster forecasting and warning system by utilizing space technology as a tool

Concept:

- Exhibition of operational space and geo-informatics technology that has been proven as effective tools for disaster warning and water management

- Keynote Lectures on practical application of space technology and experiences by renowned speakers
