GISTDA Advances Joint Laboratory Collaboration with China, Integrating Space Technology and AI to Drive the Space Economy
GISTDA, under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), led by Mr. Peer Choosri, Deputy Executive Director of GISTDA, participated in the 2026 Wenchang International Aviation and Aerospace Forum, held on 24–25 August 2026 in Wenchang, Hainan Province, the People’s Republic of China.
A key highlight of the event was the launch of the “Joint Laboratory on Intelligent Computing Satellite Constellation,” a collaborative initiative between GISTDA and the Hainan Satellite Data and Application Research Center, an organization under the China National Space Administration (CNSA). Mr. Danuporn Punnakanta, Assistant to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, and Dr. Siryada Palimapant, Advisor to the Minister, attended the opening ceremony as representatives of MHESI’s leadership and witnessed this important milestone in international cooperation.
On the same occasion, Mr. Peer Choosri delivered a presentation titled “From Earth Observation to Ground: Delivering Values to the Society.” The presentation reflected GISTDA’s approach to transforming space technology and Earth Observation (EO) data into practical applications that create tangible benefits and value for people, the economy, and society.
The Joint Laboratory will serve as a long-term platform for research and development, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) with space technology and geoinformatics. The collaboration aims to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of space-data analysis and utilization, while translating knowledge and technological innovation into practical, real-world applications.
The partnership will also promote the joint development of space technologies, knowledge exchange, and human resource development, helping to prepare the workforce for the growing demands of the future space industry and other advanced technology sectors.
This integration of advanced technologies represents another important step in supporting MHESI’s policy to drive deep-tech innovation and create new economic value through the Space Economy in Thailand. At the same time, it strengthens international networks for space technology cooperation and lays the foundation for Thailand to connect knowledge, innovation, and emerging opportunities across the region in the years ahead.
