GISTDA Joins Forces with Thai and International Partners to Build the Thailand Spaceport Ecosystem, Advancing Technology, Engineering, and the Space Industry Toward Commercial Launch Capabilities
13 August 2026 – The Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University, hosted the Thailand Spaceport Week 2026: Spaceport Industry & Technology Seminar under the theme “Building Thailand's Spaceport Ecosystem: From Technology and Engineering to Commercial Launch Capabilities.” The seminar, held at the Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University, Bangkok, brought together more than 100 participants from government agencies, industry, academia, research institutions, and the space sector, both from Thailand and abroad, to exchange knowledge and explore strategic directions for the future development of Thailand's space industry.
Dr. Damrongrit Niammuad, Deputy Executive Director of GISTDA, emphasized that the development of Thailand Spaceport is far more than the construction of a launch facility. It is about building a comprehensive Spaceport Ecosystem that integrates technology, engineering, research, innovation, regulatory frameworks, human capital, and industrial capabilities. Such an ecosystem will provide the foundation for Thailand's growing space economy while positioning the country as a regional hub for space activities.
The seminar featured distinguished experts from Thailand and overseas who shared their expertise across key areas of the space value chain. Mr. Kei Shimada, Chief Business Officer of Innovative Space Carrier (Japan), presented the latest trends in spaceport technologies that are enabling the future of commercial space businesses. Mr. Simon Gwozdz, CEO & Founder of Equatorial Space (Thailand) Co., Ltd., shared insights into the development of commercial rocket technologies and launch services. Dr. Parinya Anantachaisilp, Chief Executive Officer of EOS Orbit Co., Ltd., discussed satellite design from mission planning through launch readiness for spaceport operations. Dr. Supatcha Chaimethanan, Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering at Kasetsart University, together with Dr. Jeerasak Pitakannop, Senior Metrologist at the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) and Lecturer at the International School of Engineering (ISE), Chulalongkorn University, shared expertise on airspace management for launch operations and innovations in rocket propulsion systems—both essential components of the future Thailand Spaceport ecosystem.
The seminar was one of the highlights of Thailand Spaceport Week 2026, which aims to strengthen collaboration among government agencies, industry, academia, and international partners in developing talent, technology, and innovation. The initiative also seeks to enhance Thailand's readiness to support commercial launch activities and foster a sustainable space industry.
GISTDA believes that the development of Thailand Spaceport will serve as a key driver in enhancing the country's technological competitiveness, creating new economic opportunities, attracting high-value investment, and positioning Thailand as a sustainable regional hub for space activities in Southeast Asia.
